Barenuts Macadamias - proudly Australian grown and proudly Australian owned.

adapted quad mower mounted on front of kubota mower

Our
macadamia orchard is located in the shadow of Mount Bauple, inland of majestic Fraser Island, Queensland.

We will make a donation to the Australian Koala Foundation with every macadamia cracker soldTrialling a new biological control for Fruit Spotting Bug - Anastatus wasp layed in silk worm eggs
We use sustainable agricultu
ral techniques that is made easier by having a small manageable orchard of 2000 trees. We hand prune our trees once a year allowing more light to reach the orchard floor, encouraging groundcover and thereby controlling erosion and improving soil health.  The prunings are chipped straight onto the orchard floor where they slow the flow of water and provide extra protection for the soil around the root zone.  We heavily mulch under young trees to assist with soil biology and weed control, reducing the need for herbicides.

Our soil nutrition comes primarily from compost that is manufactured on-farm using macadamia husk, hardwood sawdust, and manure.
We use biological controls for the major insect pests, alleviating the need for pesticides.

In May 2012 we have introduced a small wasp into our orchard called the Anastatus wasp.  Hopefully this little wasp will lay its eggs into the egg of the Fruit Spotting Bug thus parasitising it. It is in a trial form and hopefully will have a huge impact on this very damaging insect.

We chose to grow macadamias nuts for a variety of reasons.  They are a local native species, so well suited to our climate.  The fact that they are very healthy and taste great is an added bo
nus.

Macadamias have the highest source of mono-unsaturated fats, often referred to as the 'good oil', of any nut.  They are full of cancer fighting anti-oxidants, have beneficial anti-inflammatory properties and actually lower cholesterol, making them beneficial for a healthy heart.

Macadamia nuts
suit all cuisines and recipe styles, from decadent desserts to scrumptuous salads.
The versatility of the macadamia is unsurpassed.
Try substituting them in any of your favourite nut recipes.

Many consider
this nut as the world's finest nut. The rich buttery taste and crunchy texture make Barenuts Macadamias a delight to eat. We work in small batches to ensure this.
All
our nuts are roasted, mixed and blended in our commercial kitchen right on the farm by us.
